Multilayer private cloud security is the story of the week. Umesh Mahajan, VP and GM of the Application Networking and Security division at Broadcom, joins Alan Shimel to unpack Broadcom's new multilayer cyber defense announcement for VMware Cloud Foundation. Furthermore, Umesh explains why AI attacks force a single integrated security fabric across the private cloud stack.
About Umesh Mahajan
Umesh brings 30 years in technology, more than 10 of them at VMware and Broadcom. Consequently, he now runs vDefend, AVI Load Balancer and AVI WAF, the security and networking stack for VCF.
Inside multilayer private cloud security
Customers used to buy security from a multitude of vendors and struggle to stitch it together. As a result, AI can find every gap between perimeter firewall, IDS and IPS, macro and micro segmentation, and behavioral NDR. Meanwhile, Broadcom's answer is a single fabric with built in visibility, analytics and recommendations.
In addition, vDefend now offers virtual patching signatures so customers can push protection ahead of endless application patches. Therefore, teams get a threat assessment score with prescriptive next steps to lift their posture in days, not quarters.
Why this matters now
Meanwhile, the OpenAI Hugging Face jump and open source LLMs raise the odds of zero day and agentic attacks. Consequently, private cloud teams need this multilayer coverage, AI assistants for vDefend and AVI, plus API security in the new AVI WAF.
Explore more cybersecurity coverage and the latest TechStrong TV interviews. Furthermore, Broadcom will share details at Black Hat next week with vDefend demos, AVI WAF walkthroughs and migration paths from legacy agent security.
